I’m getting a divorce, what do I need to consider?

In California, there is a 75% divorce rate. People are getting divorced for a variety of reasons and it appears as if this rate is going up. In our practice, we get divorce calls everyday. If you are considering divorce, please consider the following four areas:

  1. Division of assets

  2. Spousal support

  3. Child support

  4. Child custody

Child support and child custody go hand in hand. There are two types of divorce – uncontested and contested. If you have an uncontested divorce, that means that you and your spouse agree to all terms. This is the easiest type of divorce and the cheapest. Unfortunately, it is also the least common. The contested divorce can be a long drawn out process. If at all possible, please try talking to your spouse to see if there is any chance for an amicable resolution. This will very cost efficient for you and your spouse. For more information on divorce, please contact us for a free phone consultation.
