Why do I need an estate plan rather than a will?

Some states give a will more power than other states. However, California is NOT one of them. Here in California, if you simply have a will and forego creating a complete living trust, your estate will be subject to probate. A will does not protect from probate, federal estate taxes or provide asset protection. A comprehensive living trust (or an estate plan) can provide protection from probate, federal death taxes, and asset protection.
